Private Tour in the Communist Bucharest

Almost 30 years have passed since former communist leader Nicolae Ceausescu's reign ended and communism in Romania collapsed, but yet the signs of the cruel regime are still visible throughout Romania's capital.

Embark on a full day tour of Bucharest and take a step back in time for a history lesson full of glory and dreams built on oppression and manipulation.

The communist tour in Bucharest will start with a trip to some of the subway stations built under the Ceausescu regime. The first line was opened in 1979 and the metro network is completely different from other systems in Eastern Europe, being built for two purposes: transit speed and practicality.

We will then visit a communist neighborhood that was built specifically for the working class. Here we can see how the everyday life of ordinary people under the leadership of the communist party looked like. This pedestrian tour is also a perfect opportunity to observe a part of street art that was strictly forbidden during Ceausescu's reign.

Then we will visit the most famous tourist attraction in Bucharest, the Palace of Parliament. Originally called the "House of the Republic", it was one of the most spectacular projects under Ceausescu's rule. It was built between 1984 and 1997 and holds the Guinness record for the largest administrative building in the world, measuring 240 meters long, 270 wide, and 84 high. The building is also known as the People's House. Because of its enormous weight, the Parliament Palace sinks 6 mm each year.

The communist tour also includes a pedestrian tour through Revolution Square, a place that played an important role in the fall of the communist era and one of the starting points of the anti-communist revolution.

The last landmark of your tour is the Ceausescu couple's house, the Ceausescu residential Palace (the Spring Palace). This luxurious estate was built between 1964 and 1965 and hosted Elena and Nicolae Ceausescu from 1965 until they died in 1989. After the fall of the communist regime, the Spring Palace was used as a VIP residence for official delegations and foreign presidents, and in 2016 it became a museum.

After you visit the Ceausescu residential Palace, the tour will end and we will leave you at the hotel.
