Transfăgărăşan Highway, from Brașov

The Transfăgărăşan road was built as a strategic military route, and it is the highest (2042m) and most dramatic paved road in Romania. It runs North to South across the highest sections of the Carpathian Mountains, the Fagaras Mountains, connecting the historic regions of Transylvania and Wallachia.

The Fagaras Mountains are the highest mountains of Romania and the Carpathian range with highest peak Moldoveanu (2544m.) The road passes nearby Lake Balea, a natural glacier lake situated at 2035m altitude and it’s 360 meters long, 240 meters wide and 11 meters deep and Balea Waterfall with its 60 meters height being one of the most famous waterfalls in Romania.

Transfagarasan Highway was mentioned and appreciated in TopGear TV show as one of the best mountain highways to drive on.

We will make a stop at the top of the mountain pass for a relaxing drink and to admire the mountain ridge and take lots of pictures. Here you can find traditional snacks sold by locals at small booths, but also, we can serve well prepared trout from the mountain lake at Balea Lake Hut with a nice panoramic terrace (not included in the price of the price).
