Learning

Snowboarding in Poiana Brașov

The activity starts with learning or reviewing the technical basics of ski touring. This will be done on an easy slope (most likely on the Bradul slope) after which we will start climbing up the edge of the slope, then through the forest to the Postavaru Chalet. Along the way, we will take short breaks to rest (to catch our breath) as well as to check and improve our climbing technique, especially where the slope changes. Postavaru Chalet is the highest point of our route today, where we will relax in the company of hot tea.

The trail is ~4km long and the estimated climbing time is between 1h and 1h30min depending on the ability and level of physical training of the participants. After the well-deserved break at the chalet and hot tea, we dress thicker and start the descent back to the starting point, which can be done in approx. 15-30min.

In order not to overlap with other skiers, we recommend that this tour starts after 16:00. During the tour we will use headlamp to light our way.

Note: This experience does not represent a ski lesson, the participants must have sufficient alpine skiing knowledge, and be able to ski without difficulty and in all conditions on minimum blue level slopes. For the safety of the participants, the guide - experienced instructor, will be the only one who will make the best decision about the route to follow, the way to descend, but also if the participants have enough technical skills to ski safely.

Note: equipment is limited, please book in advance.

- we recommend a thicker spare jacket, for the descent;
- small backpack with a snack + water.

Ski lessons with Certified Instructor - Mărișel Slope

We can be the ones to guide your first steps in skiing. We view skiing as a recreational activity and never a competitive one, which is why we focus on the safety of the skier and those on the slopes. We teach techniques for maintaining balance while gliding, handling equipment, approaching slopes of different inclinations, discovering the pleasure of gliding on snow, feeling the joy given by this sensation.

And if you want to have more experiences, we can also go off-piste learning ski touring, approaching climbing techniques, moving and most importantly, being aware of the risk of avalanches.

We look forward to seeing you on slopes and, the more experienced ones off slopes.

Required equipment for alpine skiing:
- body equipment, sweatshirt and pants, preferably merino wool or synthetic (we do not recommend cotton, it does not dry quickly and it maintains the cold feeling on the body);
- ski socks, made of merino wool or synthetic (they are longer and offer slight protection to the shinbone);
- sweatshirt or sweatshirt made of a fleece or similar material (depending on the weather conditions add or remove the accessory);
- indoor jacket with synthetic insulation or down. I recommend synthetic insulation, the best performing being Primaloft (to be added only when temperatures are extremely cold, lower than -10°C or if the person is chilly);
- jacket and ski pants;
- ski gloves. Depending on the weather conditions, 5-finger gloves can be worn when temperatures are not low and 1-finger gloves when temperatures are low (a fleece glove is recommended when it is very cold);
- ski balaclava, ski bandana;
- ski helmet;
- ski goggles;
- back protector;
- comfortable ski boots, their stiffness should be according to the skier's ability;
- ski poles, according to height;
- skis, according to ability.

Weather conditions may differ from time to time. We can operate on low temperatures, wind, snow, low intensity blizzards, spring conditions. Snow may be fresh, powder, packed powder, icy, slush.

It might sound cliché, but snowboarding is more than just a sport, it is an appealing, cool and non-conformist lifestyle. However, it involves risks like any other sporting activity. Viewed like any other art of sports, our priority in monitoring is for you to gain self-confidence, safety and control while enjoying the pleasure of the sport to the fullest by overcoming mental barriers with us.

We have improved ourselves, gained experience, developed new programs and activities to suit all requirements.

Straja resort has about 26 km of ski area. 20 km are covered with artificial snow. The 11 cableways ensure easy access to all the slopes in the resort.

We offer courses for beginners and intermediates as well as for those who want to take their sport to another level with freeride courses.

The equipment is rented separately.

Snowboard Courses - Straja

If you want to spend an active winter day away from the city, on lands where nature stays still, this activity is the perfect fit for you.

You can enjoy hiking in snowy forests, the special view on the tops of the conquered mountains, to learn from your guide about the culture and the locals' way of living, and to discover the habits of wild animals by their tracks left in the snow, and according to their chosen route, many other attractions.

The use of snowshoes helps us not to get too much into the snow, but if we don't have enough snow, the routes can be covered without them. You don't need experience, or training, just a minimal physical condition.

There are many routes, in a different zone, each one with its charm:

The Bicazuli-Hamas national Park:

Starting with the Red Lake to Belvedere Piatra Ghilcos (1354m), where the extraordinary view leaves you speechless, you can see the Red Lake from above and the mountains surrounding the Cheile Bicazului to Gatul Cupasului (1269m), from where we can admire the Ceahlau Peak from Balan, to the Piatra Singuratica Chalet, then the Ecem Peak (1707m), or the highest peak in the area, the Hasmasul Mare (1789m). From the mountain ridge, we can admire with a little bit of luck the spectacular movements of the black goats on the cliffs. From Pangarati Pass (1255m) to Poiana Ciofronca (1550m), where it is worth making a detour to Cifronca Peak (1607m), from which we have an overview of the route and the surrounding mountains.

Ciuc Mountains:

From Ghimes Pass to the Nascalat Mountains (1550m), the southern extension of the Hasmas Mountains, a beautiful area, as if forgotten by the world from the beautiful village to Viscol Peak (1495m), one of the most beautiful routes in the middle of the Ciucul Mountains, a route with historical features that can be learned from our guide.

Harghita Mountains:

Route to Kossuth Rock (1399m), a rock formation from where we can admire the city of Miercurea-Ciuc and the villages located in the Ciuc Depression, the Harghita Ciceu Peak (1759m) and the Owl Fortress from where, under favorable weather conditions, we can see the Meridional and Oriental Carpathians along the route to the Harghita-Madaras Peak (1801m), where we will be overwhelmed by the panorama as if the entireTransylvania can be seen, Ceahlau Mountains, Calimani, Fagaras, Apuseni. The mysterious atmosphere here is due to the small tombs of stones, as well as the wooden crosses and chipped pillars. Here we can also visit the picturesque Seche waterfall. Land of Vulcanoes:

The tour around the crater of the St. Ana volcanic lake, with a beautiful view of the lake and Bixad commune, visiting Tinovul Mohos, learning about crater formation, the moffette and carnivore plants, and optional the Puturosu Cave and the multitude of natural springs from the Balvanyos area.


Depending on interest and availability, we can extend the program with a visit to a local brewery tasting or a dinner in a nearby restaurant.

Equipment: snowshoes and hiking sticks are provided. You will need proper clothing for winter conditions. 
Transfer to the starting point, available on request.

"Learn to SKI in 3 STEPS" is a project for BEGINNERS who want to learn skiing in an organized manner in Dubai (STEP I + II) and then in the Alps (STEP III) or other locations domestically or internationally.

STEP I (Indoor Activities)
This step includes activities on a ski simulator in Dubai (ski carpet), one of the SAFEST ways to start learning and developing your skiing skills. It helps improve BALANCE and establishes a correct initial posture on skis. (2 days)

STEP II (Indoor Activities)
This step involves SKI activities on an ARTIFICIAL slope in Dubai (Mall of the Emirates), focusing on:

Using SKI equipment in cold temperatures,
First interaction with (artificial) snow on skis,
Handling and using various types of chairlifts and surface lifts,
Taking the first steps and making descents on very easy slopes.
This step helps you become stable and confident on skis so you can CONTROL them in the SAFEST way possible. (3 days)
STEP III (“Improve your SKI Skills in Dubai & Alps” - Outdoor Activities)
This step includes SKI activities on various slopes in your country or abroad (especially in the Alps, as per the client’s choice). The goal is to:

Refine your SKI style,
Develop skiing skills and correct errors,
Highlight your skiing capabilities,
Enjoy the mountain scenery and the thrill of skiing on renowned slopes worldwide.
