Volcanoes Land - St. Ana Lake and Balvanyos Baths
About
We invite you to visit the richest natural resource corner of the Eastern Carpathians, where volcanoes and post-volcanic phenomena have created unique natural miracles, resulted in a charming world.
The Tinovul Mohos, a crater of almost 80 hectares in the Ciomad Mountains, is our first stop, where we discover how this special vegetation area was born, we admire the picturesque fens, we learn about the botanical rarities of the glacial era such as carnivorous plants. From the edge of the crater, we go down to the Saint Ana Lake, which is the only volcanic lake in Eastern Europe.
After a boat ride around the lake, we go on a trip in the Balvanyos area to Puturosu Mountain, whereby following the tourist mark we can climb through the forest to the largest natural moffette in Europe, the Puturosu Cave. The former sulphur mine gives off over 4000 cubic meters of sulphuric gas every day. From here, we continue our way to the Apor Baths, where we encounter a multitude of natural springs with unique chemical compositions throughout Europe. Here we can cool down and benefit from the healing force of nature.
