4x4 Trip in Ciuc and Hășmaș Mountains

Detach yourself from your everyday life and go on a mountain ride with a 4x4 car in the Eastern Carpathians.

A special region, less visited, awaits you with an alternating wild mountain with virgin forests, clear streams, rocks, and charming meadows. Besides the wonderful landscape, you will be able to observe the hospitality and traditional lifestyle of the locals living in the countryside. Surrounded by the picturesque wilderness, we will go through the hidden valleys, seeing the splendid mountain ridge, offering great photo opportunities.

For lunch, you can choose between a picnic in the open air or freshly fried trout in a mountain village, and in addition, you can choose to enjoy 3-hour easy hike in the Hasmas Mountains.

Riding with a 4x4 car is the best way to visit and discover the high areas of the Eastern Carpathians. Your escape starts in Miercurea Ciuc, where the guide will wait for you with a 4x4 vehicle. Before the off-road experience, we will go through the villages from the Ciucu basin to the village of Nicolesti. Depending on the season and weather conditions, we can explore the way to the top of the Pagan (1350m), and Nascalat Mountain (1553m), where you can enjoy the view of the Ciucu Basin.

We climb the mountain ridge, passing through Tarcau glade and follow the forest road along the ridge. In 2-2,5 hours we get to the border of the National Park of Bicaz Gorges - Hasmas, where we can enjoy a picnic with local products, and an optional easy trekking of 2-3 hours to the top of Ecem of 1707m altitude. From its rocky ridge, you can enjoy an extraordinary view of the mountains.

Going back to the car, the journey continues on forest routes and through traditional mountain areas to the village of ‘Trei Fantani’. Here you can observe the traditional way of life and taste fresh trout from the local farm, served by a local family.

In the environs of the village, you can meet herds of horses, sheep and bovine herds grazing, guarded by shepherds. From ‘Trei Fantani’ we are heading for the Gorges of Bicaz, which runs along the Bicajel Valley, with wooden houses and haystacks, dense forests, and the small waterfalls.

After we admire the big keys and take a short 1,5-hour walk around the Red Lake or optional, a guided ride via Ferrata, we are going back to Miercurea-Ciuc through the Covacipeter village set at the altitude of 1325m, where the spring of Olt river can be admired.
